Tree planting

11 Oct

Today we got out and clomped around in the Salmon Creek estuary system to plant trees. Back in settlement days cattle ranchers planted a hardy grass for their cows that has choked out much of the native plants. The Clark County Estuary Partnership is combating that through a sysyem of spraying, mowing, and planting local trees.

We learned what dipple bars are (hand and foot poles to make a space in the ground for a cutting), and what a Pacific Five Bark cutting looks like. It was wonderful to get out with family, sweat a bit, and do some nature good. It is really cool to think about what this space will look like in a few years!
