Thankfulness

24 Jul

(by Robin)

Tomorrow is my dad’s birthday. I was his birthday present all those years ago, as the first child to my very young parents.

He died of a sudden heart attack three years ago, just a few days before his birthday. We had just taken possession of Tango, and were in the throes of selling all our possessions, preparing the house for renters, and moving aboard Tango. In one of my last conversations with Dad we chatted about the boat and about our sailing dream plans. He told me he was proud of me, and a bit envious. Dad hated talking on the phone, but he went out of his way to call me, wanting me to know how he felt.

My dad was a dreamer and an explorer…and he taught me about not just dreaming but about putting those dreams into action. Probably doesn’t need mentioning, but this week really isn’t my favorite week anymore…

Having that said, I am SO thankful for my family (family by birth or friendship)…every single one of you. Thankful for thoughtfulness, togetherness, dreaming, hugs, making the effort, texts, emails, understanding, time, listening, and love. We are caught in this circle of life, with all its highs and lows. Enjoying with family…sometimes enduring…makes me happy.
