Adding to the family

4 Jan

Watching the girls play with cruising boat dogs over the last months, we realized that they need a dog who wants to play and interact (and is physically able to do it). They need someone who wants to bound, swim, play and fetch. Our old guy’s heart is still in the game, but he’s at a point where his body is content just eating and sleeping 22 hours a day. A younger dog would be a good companion for Banyan, since Banyan gets lonely and howls when we leave him (even just to walk to the grocery store).

We decided to take the adoption leap now that we have modified our floating goals and getting a second dog isn’t an added complication of international health certificates, permits, and fees. Today we spent several hours at the humane society, and found a sweet little unloved stray who needs us. We also realized that we need him. We have named him Max, and get to bring him home on Tuesday.

We have our work cut out for us, to win his trust and teach him the ways of boat life. We look forward to the challenge! Stay tuned for adoption day updates!

Syd! How could you suggest such a thing?!

It’s very simple actually. Once you realize you can do more than make barking noises, other languages are easy to pick up. Speaking is easier than reading but I’m getting better at that too. I love phonetics.

Hope we meet up again so Oliver can meet Max. We are in Plam Beach waiting for calm seas. May end up just heading South. Patty, Dale and Oliver
